What is the general FWI schedule/format?

What does my ticket get me access to?

Ticket holders for the YoYo Showcase will also get access to spectate the LVBL, Chess and Pokémon TCG tournaments over the full Faye Webster Invitational weekend. To participate in any of the tournaments, they need to register for the specific event via the relevant link.

Participants in the LVBL, Chess, and Pokémon TCG tournaments do not get access to watch the YoYo Showcase + Concert. A separate ticket for that event must be purchased (HERE).

How many people will be selected to compete in each tournament (Tennis, Chess, and Pokémon)?

TENNIS

Participant count will be dependent on final registration numbers, but current estimates state approximately 90 players split across the A and B tournament brackets.

The Beginner Clinic will host 40-60 participants, running on 4-6 courts respectively.

POKÉMON

The tournament will be capped at 96, and players will be split into 6 pods. Register HERE to take part.

CHESS

Everyone that registers for the chess tournament is invited to come down and play, however, participation is limited to the first 100 players to check-in on site so arrive early. Everyone that arrives after the tournament numbers are at capacity is invited to stay and watch. Complete the registration form HERE to take part.

YOYO SHOWCASE and CONCERT FAQ

Where & when is the FWI YoYo Showcase + Concert? 

The FWI YoYo Showcase + Concert will take place:

  • at The Fonda Theatre - 6126 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028

  • on Saturday, September 26th AND Sunday, September 27th with doors at 7:00 PM.


How can I watch the FWI YoYo Showcase + Concert?

You can purchase tickets to the FWI Yoyo Showcase + Concert (HERE). Saturday is now sold out and there are only a few tickets remaining for Sunday.


What is the schedule / format? 

SCHEDULE

  • 7:00 PM – Doors

  • 8:00 PM – YoYo Showcase + Concert 

  • 10.30 PM - Event Ends

FORMAT

  • The FWI YoYo Showcase and Concert will be hosted by Faye Webster and Benét and will feature live performances by Faye Webster and Laila!

  • This special event will also bring together some of the world’s top yoyo players for a no-limits exhibition to showcase their best tricks and routines.

  • Ticket holders for the YoYo Showcase will also get access to watch the LVBL, Chess and Pokémon TCG tournaments over the full Faye Webster Invitational weekend.

TENNIS FAQ

Where & when is the LVBL Tennis Tournament? The LVBL Tennis Tournament will take place:

  • at Hermon Park (Arroyo Seco Park), Los Angeles

  • on Friday, September 25th from 10:30 AM - 5:00 PM.

How do I enter the LVBL Tennis Tournament? 

You can register for the LVBL Tennis Tournament via our registration form (HERE).

  • This is a PAY TO PLAY event, separated into three pricing brackets:

    • A BRACKET TOURNAMENT ($100 per person or $200 for a doubles team)

For experienced players (4.0 + above) looking for a higher level of competition.

  • B BRACKET TOURNAMENT ($100 per person or $200 for a doubles team)

For intermediate players (3.0 - 3.5) who are comfortable playing and ready to compete.

  • BEGINNER CLINIC ($40 per person)

For beginner players looking to participate in an hour-long group clinic of Tips, Tricks, Skills & Drills. Beginners do not compete in the tournament.

Please note:

  • This is a LVBL Tennis event only and there will be no live music performance aside from DJ ETHEREAL on the MARSHALL Mobile Sound System. 

  • Registering for the LVBL Tennis Tournament does not grant access to the FWI Yoyo Showcase + Concert.


How beginner-friendly is the Beginner Clinic? 

The Beginner Clinic will be an hour long workshop with some instruction, warm ups, and dynamic hitting drills across forehands, backhands, and volleys. This is not a competitive section of the day, but more of a way to engage the community who are new or trying tennis for the first time. 

We will have demo rackets on hand and will be able to support beginners who do not have equipment. 

While beginners cannot participate in the tournament, they are welcome to stay and watch the rest of the brackets compete.

How can I watch the tennis event?

Spectators are welcome to come and watch the tournament at no cost. No registration required.

What is the schedule/format? 

SCHEDULE

  • 10:30 AM – Beginner Arrival + Check-in 

  • 11:00 AM – Beginner Clinic Begins; Tournament Player Check-in 

  • 12:00 PM – Beginner Clinic Ends 

  • 1:00 PM – Tournament Begins 

  • 4:00 PM  – A + B Bracket Finals

  • 4:45 PM – Awards Ceremony 

TEAM ENTRY OR INDIVIDUALS IN DOUBLES FORMAT

  • If you enter as a duo, you'll play as a doubles team. You and your teammate will compete in back to back LVBL liveball baskets together throughout the tournament.

  • If you enter as an individual, you'll be partnered with another individual in the same skill bracket who'll become your team-mate for the day. 

  • Your bracket (A or B) is determined by the ticket/level you purchase. You will only play against teams within your selected level. There are no bracket changes or switching levels after your ticket is purchased, so please make sure you select the correct level.


TOURNAMENT FORMAT

The CHALLENGE ROUND will consist of 6 baskets of which each team will play 4.  

  • The top 5 teams from the A & B bracket will advance to the finals and compete for the championship and PRIZES. 

What are the specific prizes and trophies for the top players?

  • Winners will receive an exclusive, one of a kind FWI trophy and prize pack.

  • Catering and refreshments are included in tickets for A & B Bracket Players, plus a goody bag with an exclusive Faye Webster Invitational x LVBL Performance T-Shirt, FWI Tote Bag and additional gifting from partners.

POKÉMON FAQ

Where & when is the Pokémon TCG Tournament? 

The Pokémon TCG Tournament will be held:

  • at The Fonda Theatre - 6126 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028

  • on Saturday, September 26th from 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM.

How do I enter the Pokémon TCG Tournament? 

You can register for the Pokémon TCG via our registration form (HERE)

This is a PAY TO PLAY event, with a standardized entry fee of $15.00. 

Exact participant count will be dependent on final registration numbers, but it will be capped at 96 players. Players will be split into 6 pods, with a top cut and an overall tournament winner and runner up. 

Please note: 

  • This is a Pokémon TCG event only and there will be no live music performances.

  • Registering for the Pokémon TCG Tournament does not grant access to the FWI Yoyo Showcase + Concert 

How can I watch the Pokémon event?

Spectators are welcome to come and watch the tournament at no cost. No registration required. 

What is the schedule / format? 

SCHEDULE

FORMAT

  • Gameplay will be in Standard Format. 

  • Paper decklist required at check-in and all cards must be single or double sleeved. 

  • The exact number of participants is dependent on final registration numbers. There will be up to 96 players split into 6 pods.

What are the specific prizes and trophies for the top players?

Winners will receive an exclusive, one of a kind FWI trophy, a FWI prize pack and a Pokemon TCG Booster Pack.

CHESS FAQ

Where & when is the Chess Tournament?

The Chess Tournament will be held:

  • at The Fonda Theatre - 6126 Hollywood Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90028

  • on Sunday, September 27th from 9:30 AM - 2:00 PM.

How do I enter the Chess Tournament?

You can register for the chess tournament via our registration form (HERE). Completing this form automatically grants spectator access to the chess tournament; however, participation is limited to the first 100 players to complete the registration form and check-in onsite.

  • This is a free event. 

Please note: 

  • This is a Chess event only, there will be no live musical performances. 

  • Registering for the Chess Tournament does not grant access to the FWI Yoyo Showcase + Concert

FORMAT

The Chess tournament will consist of 4 rounds in 2 sections: Amateur & Open. The Top 4 players in each section will proceed to a single-elimination knockout. All games will be conducted with the time control: G10+0. 


What are the specific prizes and trophies for the top players?

Our event partner, Chess.com, will be gifting 3-month diamond memberships to the following participants: 

  • 3x for the Top 3 finishers in the advanced section

  • 3x for the Top 3 finishers in the amateur section

  • 5x for 5 randomly selected tourney participants (winners will be selected and announced during the tournament) 

Additionally, the tournament champions from each bracket (advanced & ameteur) will win a goody bag that includes a FWI x Nymzo chess set, signed by Faye Webster.
